Philosophy
Engineering Geology & Rock Mechanics
Basis of all rock engineering works is the appropriate description of the geology (the geological model). The next step is the engineering geology task of estimating the rock mass properties in order to create the geotechnical model. Only then it is possible to excersice geology-based rock mechanical and rock engineering design tasks. Generally, the tasks involve the assessment of the stability of surface and subsurface structures in rock as well as the selection of the appropriate excavation and support methods.
